Teach your children to choose the right path, and when they are older, they will remain upon it – Proverbs 22:6.
Yes, today I blog to thank both my mom and my mother-in-law. Motherhood is the toughest job and many times what you do goes unnoticed, however it is appreciated. I want both of you to know, what an impact you have had on my life. So this is for you two, the best moms and grandmas I know. (I hope I you make you smile…I just listened to my heart talk.)
Mom, I fully understand what it was like to raise me. God blessed me, with raising my exact replica in Calyn. Some days I wonder how in the world you let me live in the house, I am sure there were those days you were tired of listening to me fret about grades and or complain about having nothing, I mean NOTHING, to do. But one thing is for sure, you never had to worry about me not having my chores done!
I love telling stories to my children and my students about growing up. I have many favorite memories, but somehow most of them revolve around Christmas traditions, softball games, and even the world premier of Michael Jackson’s Thriller--that forever ruined watching scary movies. I am very glad that Josh was able to get over that music video quickly so you would have a scary movie-watching partner.
However, with this, I appreciate you instilling in me values of respect, work ethic, and determination. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t rely on these core values. You also extended an infinite amount of trust to me starting at an early age (like 5) and allowing that trust to build, as I grew older. Mom, you also taught me that nothing is more important than your kids…I can count on one hand how many activities you missed and all of this happened in college, when you couldn’t drive to North Dakota or South Dakota to watch me play volleyball. And even now as an adult, you are still supporting our family whenever your schedule allows. I maybe 36, but you still know when I haven’t had enough sleep, because you can tell it in my voice. I can still pick up the phone and share my bad days with you and you still just listen, thank you mom. One last thing, your passion for helping others out through your love of quilting is inspiring and does not go unnoticed!
Mary Jo, you opened your loving, caring heart to me, when I started dating your son and I thank you for that. You have raised the most caring, supportive, selfless son. (I know, he wasn’t always like this, but he is now). You are Brandon’s loving mom, but I am the lucky one…not only to be married to him, but also to have received another mom. You have shown me that faith in our Heavenly Father is imperative, that serving others is a way to share our gifts, and to always support your husband. You have also been practical, modeling financial responsibility. I want you to know, there have been many times Brandon has said, “Your inner Mary Jo is coming out.” My heart is filled with gratitude, as I know I have the best mother-in-law a woman could have. You raised the man of my dreams and now you are the grandma to our children. Your unwavering love and support towards our family has never gone unnoticed.
I may not be the best daughter at calling/Face Timing, but know that I love you two very much. Your presence in my life has shaped me into the mom I am today. By no means am I a perfect mom (I am sure three kids will attest to this) but I do know that if I am half the mom you two have been to me, my children will have an extremely blessed life.
