I've been to church,
I've read the book,
I know He's there,
But I don't look,
near as often as I should,
His fingerprints are everywhere,
I just look down and stop and stare,
open my eyes and then I swear,
I Saw God Today.
Each day during my plan, this song shuffles through and I sing along. I usually think to myself, “I need to do a better job of opening my eyes.”
It is crazy, today above all days, where this song didn’t shuffle through my playlist, it was playing on my heart. God needed me to notice all the good around me. You see, my day was filled with so many raw emotions, as my husband’s family celebrated the life of a truly amazing woman who brought joy to everyone. In the midst of an extremely difficult day, there was just so much good. God’s fingerprints were everywhere.
As we were driving away, I prayed that I would continue to pause a little longer today to keep watching for God. I prayed that I would notice the good just a little more, just not today, but each and every day.
As the day continued, His fingerprints kept showing up. From the employees at Scheels who greeted every customer with kindness to the employee who specifically thanked my kids for purchasing gifts for Operation Christmas Child and told them, “it is cool you are doing that.” Just so much good today. Yet, God even showed off his goodness through me, as I helped a little girl after she tripped and her new holiday dress went flying until her grandma was able to catch up.
In a season, where sharing joy and spreading kindness seems to come a little easier, it makes me believe there is good all around me. The challenge is to pause a little longer. The challenge is to notice the good around us. The challenge is to believe there is good. And when we choose to stop and look, His fingerprints will be there.
