Today, I had the opportunity to listen to a motivational speaker address a room full of high school students. He had an great message about passion, talents, and leadership. At one point, he addressed the crowd and asked, "Where is your intersection?" I thought about this question the entire rest of his message and connecting it to the word leader.
Passion, noun, a strong emotion. Talent, noun, natural skill. Intersection, noun, the crossing of two or more things. What happens when one's passions and talents intersect? What would it look like if each of us intersected our passions and talents to serve others? Service, verb, the action of helping or doing work for someone else.
Whatever our passions may be -- teaching, coaching, exercising, blogging, reading, photography, baking, quilting -- whatever talents we may have -- athletic, instrumental, artistic, inspirational -- both are gifts from God. How we use our God given talents is our gift back to God...1 Peter 4:10 states, "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms."
As I thought about the intersection of my passions and talent...I wondered what is it that I think I do well...and that is serving others (definitely my love language). I also kept coming back to one central theme...servant leader. Which made me wonder...maybe the most effective leaders do have a servant heart. Just maybe serving others is an indispensable quality of being a leader. Lead, noun, an example for others to follow. What better way to be a leader: modeling serving others. A seamless connection amongst passion, talent, service, leadership.
So I have just one question...What is your intersection?
